Ferrothorn: Thorn Pod Pokemon

Color: Silver and Green

Shape: Ferrothorn is a Pokémon resembling a flattened durian made of metal. Its body is covered in metal thorns, with two black stripes circling its width, the lower stripe having triangular decorations below the eyes of Ferrothorn. Its eyes have green rims, yellow sclera, and dark pupils. There is a green spike at the top of its body, and extending around it are vine-like, long green appendages tipped with spiky metal disks.

Dex:  It fights by swinging around its three spiky feelers. They attach themselves to cave ceilings, firing steel spikes at targets passing beneath them; a single hit from these steel spikes can reduce a boulder to rubble.

Evolutions:   Ferroseed => Level 40 => Ferrothorn

If you remember me telling you about how I caught myself a Klink in the Chargestone cave? Well I also caught a Ferroseed around the same area.  At first, it too came a whirling itself at my head, I panicked and thought that someone had thrown a grenade at me… hey, after getting hit in the head by a loosely flying gear, I wasn't about to take any more chances with those crazy pokemon, and who knows, maybe there is some sort of grenade attack one of the Pokemon knew… like Egg bomb or Seed bomb.  Anyway, I made a crucial mistake of walking right by one of the Ferrothorn's nests… and boy did she let me know she was not happy.  Did you know that a single spike shot can shatter a boulder? Well it would have been nice to know at the time.  Anyway, I made it all the way through the cave came out and decided to report to Professor Ivy on my current progress. "Oh, didn't you get a Ferroseed? I thought you liked steel types."  For a second I looked back at the cave that had just tried to kill me and thought, "Meh, I've been through worse."

Like Klink, Ferroseed made it apparently clear it did not like me near its home, needless to say, I chose to keep the exit of the cave in sight while I searched for one.  Not long after entering, roughly 4 to 5 seconds after entering I spotted one laying a wallup on another trainer with Gyro Ball and Pin Missile attacks, luckily the trainer weekend it enough before running that the Ferroseed never stood a chance against my dusk ball.

While training with it, I quickly discover it didn't like taking orders and tried to attack me… course I had already beaten the E4 Trainers and had my kingly teams with me (ei. Sonya the Scisor, Steele, the Steelix,…). Perhaps She (oh, yeah, sorry for the delayed intro, It was female, I named her Kyra) didn't like the fact that I didn't fight her myself and I suppose to a degree I hade to prove myself.  She came hurling and spinning at me when Belfry, my green Bronzong, came down and trapped her within the Bell of its body.  I simply walked over and flicked the back and the sound waves, amplified by the bell, were enough to make her really dizzy.  Once Belfry lifted off I took a stick over to Kyra, knelt down and gave her a good flick. "No," I said, "bad Kyra." Of course she began to cry… so I had to cut that training day short.

It took me a little while to grow Kyra into a fully mature Ferrothorn, but like all other pokemon I own, I trained her to be the best she could be.  Mostly I needed a shield pokemon, in case I needed to heal my team.  She knows, and uses in this order, Ingrain, Iron Defense, Power whip/ Iron Head, depending on the opponent.  I also gave her a Rocky helmet so that any physical damage is returned by even more damage, since her ability of Iron thorn has the same effect.  She can win a battle without even attacking, which is impressive enough to make her an open roster Pokemon in any one of my teams.  She's incredibly weak to fire attacks and I could not really make any compensation to that, like with Sonya, I just have to keep on my toes and deal more than I receive.

Although a Great Tank Pokemon, I wouldn't recommend a Ferrothorn to new/rookie trainers.  They tend to be slower winners in combat and if you just go all willy-nilly and don't enjoy the art of war, then stick with some other powerhouse like Steelix or Snorlax, lol. Anyway, if you do happen to have one and are looking to train it up, focus on it's defense and physical attacks for moves, make it's strengths greater rather than balancing out its weaknesses has proven to be more effective in the field of combat.
A report of my Ferrothorn, Kyra.
